Writing on Deadline.com, Nellie Andreeva reports that "Revenge" creator Mike Kelley, who serves as executive producer and showrunner, is stepping down.Kelley may stay on as a consultant, the report notes."Kelley called the departure, which comes at the end of his current contract, 'a difficult mutual decision' between him and 'Revenge' producer ABC Studios,” Andreeva writes. She adds: "I hear Kelley, who created the cult CBS drama 'Swing Town' before taking a crack at a female-driven contemporary take on 'The Count of Monte Cristo' with 'Revenge,' had been lobbying for shorter seasons for the heavily serialized drama. From the get-go, he had argued with ABC and ABC Studios that 'Revenge' was much better suited for cable-style orders instead of the standard broadcast 22-episode seasons."Andreeva also notes: "I hear the pressure to churn out 22 episodes a season while maintaining the quality has taken a toll, sometime causing tension on the set and ultimately leading to Kelley’s decision to move on." (from: www.tvweek.com)

11 articles and 2 pictures on this topic

But it hasn’t settled the debate among analysts over whether the streaming company is just beginning to soar, or is about to peak. Netflix’s stock price is +135% so far in 2013, including today’s 24% jump to about $216 in late morning trading. Fans say that the Q1 numbers indicate that CEO Reed Hastings’ plan is working, and there’s no telling how far Netflix can go if it becomes a must-have service for people who want to stream TV shows and movies in the U.S. and abroad. For example Janney Capital Markets’ Tony Wible raised his target price this morning to $250 from $190 noting that Netflix’s deals to secure original content “may ultimately discourage competition.” Susquehanna Financial Group’s Vasily Karasyov raised his target to $224 from $107 saying that in summer 2014 Netflix could raise its $7.99 a month subscription price “which will provide additional support to the stock.” But this morning Bernstein Research’s Carlos Kirjner stuck to his “market perform” rating and $125 price target. He’s skeptical that Netflix can raise its subscription price, estimating that it lost nearly 7M subscribers after mid-2011 when it split its streaming and DVD rental services dramatically raising the price for those who wanted to keep both . He also still believes that Netflix will face “increasing competition from Amazon, HBO, and ... Brian Kilmeade , in particular, criticized the way the interrogation is being conducted and deemed it “laughable” that the suspect was read his Miranda rights in hospital. Going through some of the information about Tsarnaev being shot in the neck, Kilmeade noted it’s being called into question based on an eyewitness report. He further pointed to the suspect alleging his brother was the driving force and they acted alone, calling Tsarnaev’s account “convenient.” As the topic of religion arose, believed to be the older brother’s motivation, Steve Doocy also chimed in, discussing the brother’s past attendance at a mosque in Cambridge and the anti-American “outbursts” he’d supposedly had there. To that point, Gretchen Carlson added that the older brother appeared to be the radicalized one who influence the 19-year-old suspect. “There’s no way you should believe — everyone’s apparently running with this story,” Kilmeade immediately jumped in. “You’ve got to be kidding me. You question him for 90 seconds as he’s come out of a harrowing situation like this. He’s in self-preservation mode. This guy needs to be questioned for a couple of weeks, they need to see if his story lines up. They all have the same explanation to get out of it in the beginning. And then you’ve got to drill down on it with professional interrogators. He does not need to see his Miranda rights read to him in bed. Laughable.” Doocy turned to the older brother’s widow, wondering what she knew about the plans. While she’s said to have been in the dark, Carlson remarked that she’d been “brainwashed” by radical Islam, converting from Christianity. Kilmeade, meanwhile, pressed on: “There is no way logically — how do you not know the man you converted to Islam for is not involved in extracurricular activities? You’ve already switched to his religion. … You don’t think it ever came up that, ‘By the way, honey, I’m taking it to another level.’” Take a look, via Fox News: (from: www.mediaite.com)

29 articles and 16 pictures on this topic

On Monday night’s Fox Report with Shepard Smith , Fox News reporter Mike Tobin demonstrated cool under… well, not exactly fire . Host Shep Smith tossed to Tobin’s report, live from Boston. on new details in the investigation of the Boston Marathon bombing. Tobin managed to get through most of the report when he was suddenly double-teamed by a pair of Bostonians, who appeared to be trying to kiss Tobin. The reporter calmly pushed them away with a “Please don’t do that,” then calmly tossed it back to Shep: Credit these two for a clever Velociraptor-like attack pattern, and Tobin for quick reflexes. Had he not been so quick on his feet, Fox News viewers could have been treated to an entirely different kind of Boston Marathon. Or they could have been trying to eat Tobin’s face, who knows? The stock is down 27%. Every day an analyst slashes his or her price target on the stock, as well as lowering EPS and revenue estimates. The world has come to realization that the iPhone market as currently constructed is hitting saturation . The next wave of growth is going to be very hard for Apple to find because its revenue and profits are so gigantic that growing from here will be a challenge. Whatever product Apple makes next will not be as lucrative as the iPhone . Then, there's the margins. Those are going to come down when the product mix shifts to lower margin iPad Minis , and potentially a lower priced iPhone. Samsung stole Apple's spotlight all quarter. Apple hasn't had a single product announcement since October of last year. It doesn't appear to have any new products lined up until June at the earliest. The only time the management team speaks is during earnings calls . Lately, earnings calls have not been great. Apple is missing analyst estimates, something that never happened in the past . Tonight, some people are expecting Apple to miss its own guidance . If that were to happen, watch out. It's going to be a mess. But, here's the good news for Apple. Tonight could be the low point. It could produce relatively bad results. It could put out revenue guidance that's so low analysts go scrambling to Excel to make their projections even lower. After this earnings report, the future looks very good for Apple. We should get new iPhone software in June. Then a new iPhone 5S in the June-August time frame. Perhaps even a cheaper iPhone around that time . Then there's the iPad 5, which could be out this summer or fall . The iPad Mini will likely get an upgrade. An iWatch or an Apple television could be out by year end, or early next year . Those events will give Apple an opportunity to reset the narrative on the company . It can get back to talking about why people love iPhones and iPads. Because while it's been silent, the story has shifted. You would think Apple is going out of business the way people talk about the company right now. It's not. Even in this quarter, which is going to be a rough one, Apple is expected to generate $42.3 billion in revenue. For some context, Google 's total 2012 revenue was $50 billion. Tonight, Apple has a chance to hit the reset button. It can lower expectations while hinting about its plans for the future. Here's what sell-side analysts are looking for from Apple, via Gene Munster : Revenue: $42.3 billion EPS: $9.98 Gross margin: 38.5% iPhone: 36.5 million iPad: 18.3 million Mac: 4.1 million iPod : 6.25 million June quarter revenue: $38.6 billion June quarter EPS: $8.97 June quarter gross margin: 38.6% Munster also adds that the buy-side is thinking iPhones come in at 35 million units. It also thinks the gross margin is 38%. SEE ALSO: You Have To See This Chart To Understand Why Apple's Earnings Reports Are Different Now Please follow SAI on Twitter and Facebook . It’s now been 22 years since Jonathan Murray and his late partner Mary Ellis Bunim created MTV’s The Real World and thereby unofficially launched the reality television genre in its current form. The show is still on the air, in its astonishing 28th season, and Murray took a few minutes to reminisce this afternoon following a panel for his second-year Oxygen tattoo competition reality series Best Ink . He was asked how long Real World could conceivably run. The short answer: It will definitely see at least a 29th season (currently in pre-production) and has demonstrated that it still has some gas left in the tank after a slow start to Season 28, rising 77% in ratings since its premiere. As for how long Real World can remain on the air, Murray reveals that the question has been posed to him repeatedly over the years. “What I say is, it will be on the air as long as people want to see it,” he says. “We love doing it and every year is a challenge. Every year we come away saying we could have done this better, done that better. But every year we change the location, we tinker with it, we sort of reinvent it every year.” Murray also says he spends little time worrying about where the reality genre is heading. “The good stuff rises, finds an audience, stays on the air,” ... Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin, a Santa Fe resident, has purchased the single-screen Jean Cocteau Cinema and Coffee House, the Santa Fe New Mexican reported . The theater has 127 seats and has been shuttered since 2006. The best-selling author confirmed the purchase with a post on his blog Friday . "Bringing this beloved theatre back to life is my small gesture at giving something back to Santa Fe, the community that has been my home since 1979," Martin wrote. "Might be that I will lose my shirt ... but, hey, I've been very lucky, I have other shirts." Martin purchased the theater from Trans-Lux, a Fairfield, Conn.,-based entertainment company. The building was the subject of a foreclosure complaint filed in February, the Albuquerque Journal reported. The building had been listed for sale at $1.9 million. Martin did not reveal what he paid in his blog. The news of the theater's revival is a rare reversal of a trend for small movie theaters. The number of U.S. movie theaters overall dropped to 5,331 in 2011 from more than 7,100 in 1995, according to the National Association of Theater Owners . Matthew Viragh, owner of Nitehawk Cinema, an independent three-screen theater in Brooklyn, N.Y., said Martin's purchase was good news for single-screen theaters and film-lovers everywhere. "They have the opportunity to build a clubhouse for film aficionados," Viragh said. While it's not clear when the Jean Cocteau will reopen, it seems certain that Martin himself will not be manning the ticket booth. The prolific author also sought to reassure his fans that the purchase would not distract him from continuing work on the Game of Thrones series and other writing. I will not be doing it myself, of course. So please, readers, fans, don't get nuts. I am a novelist and a screenwriter, not a theatre manager, it won't be me standing at the concession stand asking if you want butter on your popcorn. My job remains the same as before: editing anthologies, creating and producing television and writing the occasional script, and... first, foremost, always... completing A SONG OF ICE AND FIRE. This does not change that. Comedy Central announced today that it is canceling “Futurama,” the Los Angeles Times reports. The animated series from “Simpsons” creator Matt Groening will end when its seventh season concludes Sept. 4. The 13-episode season premieres June 19.The show initially ran on Fox for four seasons, from 1999-2003. Comedy Central brought it back in 2008 for what will turn out to be another three seasons.Guest voices for season seven will include Larry Bird, Sarah Silverman, George Takei, Adam West, Burt Ward and the voice of Homer Simpson, Dan Castellaneta. The Times report notes: “Perhaps because of ‘Futurama's’ ability to transcend death before, co-creator Matt Groening's statement seemed to have a less-than-final air about it. ‘I'm very proud of the upcoming season. If this is indeed the end of “Futurama,” it's a fantastic finish to a good, long run,’ he said.”“The Simpsons” is due back on Fox for its 25th season this fall.

46 articles and 31 pictures on this topic
